PC-console game (Single-player focused)
- Written works
- ARG (?)
- Community building (Virtual and analogical)
- Tabletop games (?)
I want to build a narrative universe around the concept of mythology and mythological entities as playable characters. I’d like to take something from every religion (Christian included) and put that altogether in a narrative form.
- Shin megami tensei Franchise (Concept and media)
- In Verbis Virtus / There Came an Echo (Full voice control games)
- Dark Souls (Submerse narration) / Bloodborne (dark theme)
- Genre – First person Virtual Reality RPG with voice control. |OR| Retro-style first person JRPG
- No multiplayer (?) Risky choice, maybe
- Multi-ending (4-8)
“You awake in a blank room. This ain’t a place, you’re nothing but mere soul.
Answer my call, show me thou self.
I’ll forge your first mask. Wear it, and you will become a God.
Save the world. Or destroy it. The choice is yours.”
The concept of the game is simple: Gods are masks, and the nameless protagonist has the power to impersonate them. After a questionnaire (which is also a tutorial), the player receives his/her first mask, linked with one of the major religion or myth. After this first sequence, the protagonist “awakes” himself in a world which is facing a catastrophic event. The player can either choose to fight against it or help it occur.
According to what the gamer do, what choice he makes, his Karma will “shift”, changing the entity the mask reflects when worn.
This game, substantially, can be develop in two different ways:
- VR Action-style:
To fight the player must pronounce the “spell” (“pray” or whatever) to cast it. The game will be overall more focused about action and fast-decision making. The main goal will be exploring a vast open-world dense of submerse narrations.
- Classical Retro-style RPG:
The game will more looks like the first Megami Tensei games, so the combat will be structured as random encounter in a turn-based fight. The main point will be more clearly narrative and story-driven, emulating the sense of discovery we find in games like Yume Nikki or Undertale.
